3 Reasons Why You Should Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise

You’ve probably said to yourself, “isn’t just the one make-up wipe enough?” or “I can’t 'see' any makeup on my face, does this mean my face is cleansed?”

While makeup remover and wipes are the easy go-to's, it’s easy to forget that sometimes one swipe isn’t enough to give your skin the cleanse it needs. So why should we use a facial cleanser, toner and moisturiser? What are the secrets to glowing skin? I have broken down 3 important reasons why cleansing, toning and moisturising is essential to healthy glowing skin - plus what ingredients you should look out for!

1. Dead Skin Cells Build-Up

Did you know, we shed roughly 600,000 particles of skin every hour (that’s enough to make 1.5 pounds of skin a year!) This means at the end of every day, your face can be towering with dead skin cells, which if not cleaned properly, can cause unwanted spots and breakouts.

*I recommend following an intensive, purifying cleansing routine and opt for ingredients such as Clays, Diatomaceous Earth and Green Tea to dig deep and detox the skin.

 2. Free-Radicals & Blackheads

Toxins, free-radicals, pollution particles and dirt can be a nuisance for our skin, especially if you live in the city like me.  While free radicals can damage the skin by trying to grab extra electron atoms, toxins and pollution can cause blackheads, spots and unwanted breakouts!

I recommend using this 3-hero method to ensure your skin stays glowing and detoxified, while also locking in lost moisture. Perfect for sufferers of combination & oily skin, using the cleanse, tone and moisturise regime every night can do wonders to your skin. Opt for ingredients such as lactic and glycolic acid, vitamin A, soap bark, agrimony.

3. Control those PH Levels

We can’t stress how important your skin’s PH levels are. From flakiness, inflammation to dryness, acidic PH levels can leave your skin feeling stressed out! Rises in PH can be caused by pollution, UV light, or even by some of your own makeup products. Following this routine daily can restore balance back into your skins PH levels and lock in moisture, keeping your skin glowing and plump for longer. Opt for ingredients such as: vitamin C, vitamin B3, green tea, hyaluronic acid, and chamomile.

Tips to cleansing, toning and moisturising:

  • Use this method day or/and night.

  • Opt for sulphate-free, artificial fragrances and minimal alcohol ingredients, especially for sensitive skin. Sulphate and alcohol strips the skin from its natural oils, creating irritation and reactions .

  • Use this regime to restore your skin from environmental factors.

  • For oily skin, use oil-based cleansers.

  • For dry skin, stay hydrated and use serums to tone & moisturise.

  • Drink lots of water, it works wonders!
